O eventuală unire cu Basarabia ne-ar costa 35 de miliarde de euro. La această concluzie au ajuns jurnaliştii ziarului Cotidianul, care au făcut un calcul pentru a vedea care ar fi preţul unirii. Ziariştii au cerut părerea unor experţi în economie din România şi Republica Moldova.

Henry Kissinger este considerat părinte al realpolitik, formula germană a doctrinei realismului politic, care cere o apreciere lucidă a forţelor adversarului, dar şi a forţelor proprii, eliminarea sentimentelor, iluziilor şi prejudecăţilor ideologice în elaborarea strategiei politicii externe. Apărută într-un moment de vîrf al conflictului ideologic Est-Vest, realpolitik a produs o adevărată răsturnare în gîndirea politică occidentală. Şcoala realistă - scrie Kissinger - nu respinge importanţa idealurilor şi a valorilor. Dar ea insistă asupra cîntăririi atente, chiar nesentimentale a greutăţii forţelor materiale şi asupra înţelegerii istoriei, culturii şi economiei societăţilor care alcătuiesc sistemul internaţional. Nici un realist serios nu pretinde că puterea este singura sa preocupare. Dar nici un idealist nu poate susţine că puterea este irelevantă în răspîndirea idealurilor. Adevărata problemă este să stabileşti proporţia justă între aceste două elemente esenţiale ale politicii.

President Obama will be making a guest appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Thursday 19th of March, a White House official said, in a rare personal visit by a commander in chief to late night television.

Mr. Obama will swing by the Leno show as part of his trip to southern California. The White House official said that Mr. Obama plans to talk about the economy with Mr. Leno and said he will try to focus on substance, possibly a tall task given the show's format.

Will he be funny? "As funny as the times allow," the official said.

Ieri 15 martie a murit datorita unui cancer aflat intr-o stare avansata.

Inverness Police say former Cook County Republican Chairman Gary Skoien admitted having two prostitutes in his children’s playroom when his wife walked in on him early Sunday morning.

The allegation is in a domestic battery report from Skoien, 55, against his 36-year-old, 5-foot-4-inch, 110-pound wife. He said she beat him with her fists and an electric guitar.

(CNN) – Actor Richard Gere told Wolf Blitzer in an interview on Monday that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “misspoke in the moment” when she said that human rights “can’t interfere with the global economic crisis.”

While on a diplomatic trip to Asia in February, Clinton said that the global economic crisis, climate change and security take precedent over human rights issues when dealing with China. Gere said that Clinton has always been on the “forefront of human rights.”

“Let’s assume she said more than that because she’s more complicated than that,” Gere said. “For me, these are all the same issue. If you want to make it about human rights, that’s perfectly valid. From my point of view, human rights are very important. To an American, human rights are desperately important and you have to say the words.”

Gere is the chairman of the International Campaign for Tibet, which has focused on fighting for human rights and democratic freedom in Tibet. He attended a reception with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi Monday afternoon to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dalai Lama’s exile from Tibet.
